    American Visionary Art Museum

Behold the sights and wonders at the official national museum for self-taught and intuitive artistry! Located on a 1.1 acre wonderland campus on Baltimore's Inner Harbor, the American Visionary Art Museum is a treasure trove of creativity of all sorts. Three renovated historic industrial buildings house works of art by everyday people — farmers, housewives, the disabled, the homeless...and the occasional neurosurgeon — who create extraordinary things. "One of the best museums ANYWHERE in America," raves CNN. On top of Travel + Leisure magazine's list of "Ten Places to See Before You're Ten." And a perennial favorite among museum aficionados AND novices alike.

Medieval Times Baltimore / Washington DC

Travel back to the Middle Ages with knights, horses, jousting, and swordplay while enjoying a "hands-on" four-course feast as the story of bravery and love unfolds before you in this unique entertainment experience.

The pageantry and thrills of an authentic medieval tournament come to life inside the walls of the King's 11th century-style castle. Six armor-clad Knights on valiant horses seek the title of Champion amidst the clashing of lance and shield and heart-pounding combat.

The Royal Court invites you to join in a spectacle not seen since The Middle Ages. A four-course feast awaits as you watch the incredible Andalusian stallions perform feats of equine skill. The Knights of the Realm compete in thrilling games on horseback as the pageant unfolds and cheers of the King's noble guests fill the arena. Skill and strength are measured in the combat. Discover which of the Knights shall become Champion.

Royal trumpeters announce the call to the feast, summoning guests to take their seats in the arena. Once inside, guests are greeted by King Phillipe and Princess Leonore, who invite them to share in a regal banquet and cheer for their own Knight of the Realm – designated by six color “zones” of seating (red, blue, yellow, black & white, red & yellow and green) representing six authentic regions of Medieval Spain.

    Bill of Fare:
Guests feast on garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, oven roasted chicken, spare rib, herb-roasted potato, pastry of the Castle, coffee and two rounds of select beverages. A vegetarian meal available upon request. A full-service bar is also available for adult guests at an additional cost.

The Babe Ruth Birthplace presents the life and times of George Herman “Babe” Ruth, Baltimore’s native son who became America’s first sports celebrity and international icon. Long before the “House that Ruth Built” existed there was a “House that Built Ruth”. The historic house was built to look like it did on February 6, 1895 while the rest of the adjoining buildings feature exhibits about the Babe’s life.

The National Great Blacks in Wax Museum

            Then and Now

The National Great Blacks in Wax Museum is among the nations most dynamic cultural and educational institutions. Because it is a wax museum committed solely to the study and preservation of African American history, it is also among the most unique. Primarily, the presentation of life-sized, life-like wax figures highlighting historical and contemporary personalities of African ancestry defines its uniqueness.

            Where We Were

This unique museum, the first one of wax in Baltimore, Maryland and the first wax museum of African American history in the nations, is the brainchild of Drs. Elmer and Joanne Martin. They established the museum in 1983 with several objectives in mind: To stimulate an interest in African American History by revealing the little-known often neglected facts of history.

            I Love Baltimore Personal Tours

Tourism is my passion. My name is Ira Cunningham. I was born and raised in my beloved city Baltimore. I grew up in east Baltimore, raised a family in west Baltimore and have families through out the city. My vision for this Baltimore tourism venture is to offer our guests a chance to visit the culture of Baltimore and see our Arts Community, with its world art museums and local art. I want our visitors to see some of our beautiful churches, with America’s first cathedral, “The Baltimore Basilica”. I will be taking our guests through our history rich neighborhoods, which make us who we are.

Star-Spangled Banner Flag House & Museum

The Star-Spangled Banner Flag House allows you to step into living history and immerse yourself in one of the most riveting stories in our nation’s history – the creation of the American flag.

Built in 1793, the Flag House was once the home and business place of Mary Pickersgill, who sewed the garrison flag Francis Scott Key witnessed flying over Fort McHenry that inspired him to write our national anthem. Pickersgill, her mother, Rebecca Young – who began their flag-making business – and Mary’s daughter, Caroline, moved into the house in 1806.

The house was sold to the city of Baltimore in 1927, and the Star-Spangled Banner Flag House Association established a museum inside the home. Today, the house retains much of its original character, showcasing many early 19th century objects that belonged to the Young-Pickersgill family. Families and visitors of all ages can participate in interactive activities, as well as take advantage of special programs offered throughout the year.

Featured exhibits located in the museum building include a discovery gallery for children, where kids can design a flag and fly it on the gallery’s flagpole, cook at a replica of the Flag House kitchen and more. The Flag House’s most current permanent exhibit is “Family of Flagmakers: The Women Who Created the Star-Spangled Banner,” the first of its kind in history that focuses on the life of Mary Pickersgill, her family, household and neighborhood. It includes several interactive areas, including a station where you can measure yourself against the two foot stars and attempt to hoist the flag’s weight. The exhibit features a fragment of the Star-Spangled Banner flag, a drum used by an American soldier during the bombardment of Fort McHenry and more.

              Mount Clare Museum House

On a rise in the center of Carroll Park in southwest Baltimore stands Maryland's first museum house and one of the oldest and finest examples of colonial Georgian architecture in the city.

Mount Clare is a 1760 colonial Georgian home built by one of Maryland’s leading patriots and one of our first state senators, Charles Carroll, Barrister. Mount Clare was the center of Georgia Plantation, a self-sufficient plantation with a diverse community. Because of its exceptional value in interpreting our rich national heritage, Mount Clare was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1971.

The National Society of the Colonial Dames in America in the State of Maryland has been the steward of Mount Clare since 1917, and owns the museum's collection of nearly 3,000 objects from the 18th and 19th century which includes paintings, furniture, and decorative arts, a majority of which are on display at Mount Clare. Today, Mount Clare Museum House educates the public about all aspects of life on an 18th century plantation including the lives of enslaved Africans and indentured servants.

The museum has one of the finest privately owned decorative arts collections in the country, most of which belonged to the Carroll family. It is renowned amongst scholars and collectors alike. The collection consists of English and Chinese export objects as well as many regional objects and furnishings from Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. On exhibit are 16 family portraits by notable artists such as Charles Willson Peale and Robert Edge Pine. This exceptional collection allows us to provide a remarkably personal interpretation of life at Mount Clare – a rare treat for historic house visitors.
